Marangu Route – 8 Day Scheduled Trekking Tour|
The Marangu Route is the most classic and comfortable way to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” it is the only route that offers mountain hut accommodation on the mountain, making it ideal for trekkers who prefer a more comfortable trekking experience. This 8-day itinerary includes an extra acclimatization day, increasing summit success while allowing you to enjoy the beauty of Kilimanjaro at a steady pace.
🗻DAY 1
Arrival in Tanzania – Arusha / Moshi
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our team and transferred to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. Depending on your arrival time, you can relax at the hotel and prepare for the trek ahead.
In the evening, you will meet your mountain guide for a full briefing, gear check, and trek preparation. Overnight at the hotel.
🌿 DAY 2
Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
After breakfast, drive to Marangu Gate for registration and trek formalities. Begin your trek through the lush rainforest zone, where you may spot colobus monkeys and colorful birds. The trail is gentle and scenic, leading to Mandara Hut.
Elevation: 1,870m to 2,700m
Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
Habitat: Rainforest
Dinner and overnight at Mandara Hut.
🌄 DAY 3
Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
After breakfast, continue trekking through the forest as the landscape gradually opens into heath and moorland. Enjoy stunning views of Mawenzi Peak and the surrounding landscape as you ascend to Horombo Hut.
Elevation: 2,700m to 3,720m
Hiking Time: 6–8 hours
Habitat: Moorland
Dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut.
🧗 DAY 4
Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut
This extra day is reserved for acclimatization to improve your chances of reaching the summit successfully. You will enjoy a short hike toward Zebra Rocks before returning to Horombo Hut for lunch and rest. This day helps your body adjust to the altitude while offering spectacular mountain views.
Elevation: 3,720m to 4,000m
Hiking Time: 2–3 hours
Habitat: Moorland
Dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut.
🌌 Day 5:
Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
After breakfast, continue your trek through the alpine desert zone. The trail becomes drier and more rugged as you cross the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks. Arrive at Kibo Hut where you will rest, eat an early dinner, and prepare for your midnight summit attempt.

Habitat: Alpine Desert

🌳 Day 6:
Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut
Around midnight, begin your summit push to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. This is the most challenging and rewarding part of the trek. Reach Gilman’s Point, continue to Stella Point, and finally arrive at Uhuru Peak (5,895m) for sunrise. After celebrating at the summit, descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest, then continue down to Horombo Hut.

Hiking Time: 10–14 hours
Habitat: Arctic to Moorland
Dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut.
🌳 Day 7:
Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
After breakfast, descend through the moorland and rainforest back to Marangu Gate. Upon arrival, receive your summit certificate before transferring back to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi for a well-deserved rest and celebration.

🌳 Day 8:
Departure
After breakfast, enjoy some time to relax at the hotel before your transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight. Depending on your schedule, optional day trips or safari extensions can be arranged.
